Clients' Testimonials about Margaret

Incredible from top to bottom! They provide a truly comprehensive amount of assistance from any angle you could conjure up. My college counselor, Kim, was incredibly kind and helped me all throughout the process, from realizing what kinds of schools to look at for my specific interests and needs, to what to do to bolster my resume, to ultimately narrowing down my list. And my essay counselor, Margaret, was also greatly supportive; she helped me think deeply and make sure that was reflected in my essays, from my personal statement to supplementals. From brainstorming to making my essays more engaging and rhetorically strong, she was with me the whole step of the way. And if that wasn’t enough, I also had the help of one of their SAT coaches, Daniel, to improve my score by 50 points. All in all, could not recommend enough.

Profile

Margaret grew up in rural Maine as the youngest sibling in a large family of writers and musicians, resulting in a deep appreciation for nature, a fierce passion for writing, and (unfortunately) a non-existent musical talent. Her first “job” in editing was in her teens when she had an unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter and worked on the transcripts for MuggleCast, a popular Harry Potter podcast. In the rest of her free time, she wrote a lot of Harry Potter fanfiction and had a small but mighty online following.

She earned a B.A. in English at the University of New Hampshire where her studies focused on 19th century British literature. A few years later she earned her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lesley University, resulting in both a school counseling license and path forward for clinical licensure.

Before she was an educator herself, Margaret lived in the Boston area and worked in the field of education as a copy editor and, later, managing editor of an online ELA curriculum for an ed-tech company. After earning her Master’s, she was a mental health therapist and then temporary school counselor before eventually moving to San Francisco. There, she spent three years as a counselor at an all-girls private school where she honed her college counseling skills, including tackling the UC Personal Insight Questions.

In an act of impulsivity and at the start of a worldwide pandemic, Margaret moved to South Korea to work as a counselor at an international school. Most recently, she was a high school counselor in Tennessee.

Margaret lives with her husband, two cats, and a collection of plants. She enjoys camping and hiking, weight lifting, international travel, trying out new recipes, and the idea of learning how to skateboard. She has re-discovered her passion for writing and hopes to someday be a published author.
