Clients' Testimonials about Brenna

As a parent, navigating the college application process for the first time seemed daunting, but Hello College supported us all along the way! The financial webinars helped answer my questions and set realistic expectations. Kim S was a wonderful counselor. With her guidance my daughter identified schools, honed in on possible paths of study, and submitted her applications ahead of schedule. Brenna E was an excellent essay coach, providing valuable feedback before my daughter submitted final writing samples. Thanks Hello College!!

As a high school student, HelloCollege was extremely helpful. I could tell that they always had my best interest at heart. With the help of my counselor Kim and essay coach Brenna, I felt supported throughout the entire, intimidating college application process. Because of their guidance and all the knowledge I gained from workshops, I had all of my applications submitted before my senior year even started, allowing me to focus on my daily schoolwork, sports, and senior year activities to a more full potential. They are an amazing resource for something that can seem very overwhelming and impossible. They know the process like the back of their hand and my whole family got all of our questions and concerns answered at any time.

I worked with Kim and Brenna throughout the college admissions process and they’ve both been great. Kim has helped me from the very beginning, making sure that I had a balanced list when applying. When it became time to write essays, Brenna made sure that I was on a steady schedule so that I was able to submit all of my applications weeks before the deadline. Even when I wanted to rewrite my personal statement for the 5th time, Brenna was always super patient with me and helped me brainstorm several ideas. Throughout the entire process, I was never stressed and that was all thanks to Hello College. Whenever I had any questions, both Kim and Brenna were quick to respond and now I’m happy to say I got accepted into my top school!

Profile

A life-long writer, Brenna Ehrlich initially went to Northwestern University to study theater, but ended up reporting for alternative newsweeklies like the Chicago Reader, which led her to pursue her master’s in magazine journalism at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism.

After graduate school, Ehrlich moved to New York City, where she wrote and edited for Jewish culture magazine HEEB, worked as associate entertainment editor at tech website Mashable, and garnered a blog-to-book deal for her Tumblr, Stuff Hipsters Hate. In the meantime, she moved over to MTV, where she worked and wrote for various awards shows, eventually becoming the Senior Pop Editor at MTV News and releasing her first YA novel, Placid Girl. From there, she became the editor in chief for Talkhouse Music, where she edited musicians’ essays on both records and the music scene at large.

Talkhouse led to a role at Jay-Z’s TIDAL music streaming service, where Ehrlich was the head of rock and indie content — and editor of the service’s online music magazine. While at TIDAL, Ehrlich freelanced for Rolling Stone, covering true crime. She eventually moved over to the iconic publication, where she worked first as the senior news editor and then chief research editor. While on that beat, she released second YA novel, Killing Time.

In her spare time, Ehrlich works with volunteer organization Empowerment Avenue, helping incarcerated writers hone and edit personal essays for publication in the likes of the Marshall Project, Al Jazeera, and Rolling Stone. She loves working with writers of all levels to tell their stories — whether they’re famous musicians, inmates, or high school students.

Other things to note: Ehrlich has three matching gray cats, a husband named Morgan, and lives in New Jersey. She likes to visit farm stands, obsess over miniatures, and experiment with the New York Times cooking app. She used to mosh, but no more.
