Elizabeth Wiet is a writer and editor from the western reaches of Chicagoland who now lives in New York. A lifelong pop culture nerd, she holds a PhD in English from Yale University and currently edits for two art magazines.
Elizabeth Wiet is a writer, editor, and occasional art curator who spent her childhood and adolescence in Elburn, Illinois. At the time, Elburn was decidedly rural: its first stoplight was yet forthcoming, and mom-and-pop storefronts with names like The Grocery Store and Gliddon Drugs dotted its three-block main street. Elizabeth filled her days playing softball with her twin sister, launching model rockets in the cornfields with her dad, and surfing the nascent Internet in search of obscure albums and movies from decades past.
After graduating valedictorian from Kaneland High School, Elizabeth enrolled at Dartmouth College. Though she initially envisioned a STEM career, she found she could not escape her lifelong affection for the arts and humanities. Multiple degrees in English Literature soon followed: first, her BA, and then a PhD from Yale University. After leaving Yale, she moved to New York City, where she carved out a professional niche bridging her love of visual art with her background as a scholar and teacher of English. She currently works as an editor for two art magazines, Topical Cream and Bidoun, while also pursuing a freelance practice as an art writer. She has a particular passion for collaborating one-on-one with artists on publications and other editorial projects, helping artists to translate their visual practices into words and print.
When she’s not tethered to her computer for work, Elizabeth favors analogue avocations. She enjoys knitting and baking for her friends and family, collecting vinyl records, and perusing vintage clothing stores and used bookshops. She can often be found dancing avidly in the front row at concerts for ’80s indie bands.
