Test Prep and Academic Tutor
Stone holds an MS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas and brings 3 years of private tutoring experience in high school STEM subjects. He draws on his passion for science, history, and philosophy to make complex concepts relatable by using real-world examples, and hopes to make education a fun and inspirational process for all of his students.
Stone grew up in Seattle in a Chinese American household. His parents grew up in China during a time when all universities were outlawed. Yet, defying the odds, they found the opportunity to come to the US to study solely through their academic merit. Thus, Stone witnessed firsthand how education and knowledge can shape a person’s future–a lesson that drives his passion for both learning and teaching.
During college, Stone worked as a lab assistant where he helped peers grasp hands-on science concepts. That fulfillment led him to pursue more mentorship roles, including 1) as a graduate research assistant teaching students in lab skills and coursework, 2) as a tutor/manager at an afterschool program for low-income households, and 3) as a private tutor for 3 years with a focus on high school STEM subjects and SAT prep.
As a lifelong learner, Stone enjoys deep dives into physics, sociology, and philosophy. He spends most of his time reading and watching history/science videos, and he is currently working on a book titled “What a Sentient Rock Thinks in His Free Time” which evaluates human philosophy through the lens of a rock. He hopes that this book can inspire people to think about the world in new ways.
