Lara Arocho

Storytelling has always been Lara’s passion. After studying  writing in college, her work in journalism furthered her  inherent interest in the human story and led her to pursue a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University.  She went on to spend fifteen years as a school counselor and child, adolescent, and family therapist, which allowed her the privilege of helping young people work through their own stories. Lara’s unique combination of skills has also led to roles as a writer and mental health consultant for media organizations such as Common Sense Networks and Google. 

Lara’s background in education has included positions in a dozen public and private school districts in both urban and  suburban communities. Through this experience, she gained a keen understanding of the mechanics of school systems, as well as the social, emotional, and academic needs of students. 

Throughout Lara’s career, writing has always remained her passion. She attributes her mild obsession with grammar and  syntax to her belief that well-worded content speaks volumes  about its writer. Helping young people achieve their goals through strong, polished storytelling is something Lara finds truly rewarding. She has earned a respected reputation by engaging and motivating her students through her sincere, supportive approach.  

When Lara isn’t counseling or coaching students, she can be  found working on her own writing projects or curling up with a good book. She is also an active volunteer with the PTA at her  son’s school and enjoys helping other community service organizations. Lara is a big believer in relishing all of life’s  joys. Some of hers include home-cooked meals, family travel, the New York Yankees, and being a self-proclaimed Disney Adult.
