Amber Barrow

Amber Barrow is originally from Opelousas, Louisiana. She brings a strong background in science, writing, and public health to her work as an Essay Coach. An avid reader since childhood, Amber developed an early love for storytelling that continues to shape her work today. 

Amber earned her Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Biology from Syracuse University and her Master of Public Health in Community Health Practice from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She is a recipient of several highly competitive local, national, and international fellowships, including the Fulbright Fellowship, the Critical Language Scholarship, the Archer Fellowship Program, and the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship. Through these experiences, she has developed a deep understanding of what makes an application stand out, from crafting a compelling narrative to aligning personal experiences with larger impacts.

As an Essay Coach, Amber is passionate about helping students tell stories that are both authentic and strategic. She works closely with students to refine their voice and present themselves as thoughtful, driven candidates. She believes the strongest essays are not just well-written, but deeply intentional.

As a child, Amber planned to become the world’s first ballerina-neurosurgeon and so trained in dance through age 18. She has lived and studied abroad in both South Korea and China and has a strong interest in learning languages. She enjoys traveling and immersing herself in new cultures, and often draws on these experiences to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
