I had a fantatsic time working with my essay coach, Sam Hobson. Sam was wonderful to work with and they made my college application process feel so much easier. Sam helped me so much on my essay but was still able to strike a balance between helping me articulate my thoughts, and still keeping my authentic voice in all my essays. Sam is wonderful, and I am so grateful to have had the chance to work with them!

Sam is originally from the Chicago area and grew up in a suburb of Chicago. In high school he was a nationally competitive policy debater, and the activity took him all around the Midwest and the country. He studied Mathematics and Political Science at Emory University and worked on several research projects related to security. During his time at Emory, Sam coached debate at Pace Academy, and had research-related internships at the free expression non-profit PEN America and the US Embassy in Moscow. Sam spent the last semester of his undergraduate degree studying in Prague.
After completing his undergraduate degree, Sam researched the Russia-Ukraine war for a national security think tank in Washington, DC. His work involved using open-source information to track and map granular battlefield developments, as well as to identify the evolving dynamics of the war. Sam subsequently returned to Chicago to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Chicago’s Divinity School, focusing on Jewish secularism. When Sam was little, his dream job was to be a magician. While his views on magic have changed, he still has a healthy appreciation for whimsy and wonder!
