What Is Campus Life Like at Rice University?
Campus life at Rice is unique in many ways. The most distinctive feature is its residential college system. Instead of traditional dorms, students are randomly assigned to one of 11 (12 starting in fall 2026) residential colleges, each with its own traditions, events, and culture. Faculty and staff are selected by the students to live in apartments in the colleges to serve as mentors for the community.

There is a light rail stop on the edge of campus that students can use to get to downtown, major league sports facilities, and other parts of the city.
