Profile

Gabriel Newsham enjoys a varied career as an educator, language coach and performer. As a classical pianist, he has performed in the U.S., France, Spain and Italy, and has collaborated with Vanderbilt Opera Theatre and the Fondation des États-Unis in Paris, where he was a Harriet Hale Woolley Scholar for the 2024-25 academic year.

As a teacher at Vaughan Systems, Gabriel taught English and French for two years to students all over Spain, creating immersive, fast-paced curricula for corporate clients in addition to preparing private students for official exams. His linguistic experience has greatly enriched his work accompanying opera singers, and those skills have allowed him to collaborate with musicians across Europe. A passionate teacher, he is committed to showing students the links between language, culture and philosophy.

A graduate of St. Louis U. High and Vanderbilt University, he has volunteered as a reading aide at St. Louis Language Immersion Schools, a running guide at Achilles Nashville, and a music teacher at W.O. Smith Music School, for which he was awarded the Volunteer Service Through Music award by his alma mater, the Blair School of Music.

In addition to music and languages, Gabriel loves cooking, reading and going on long walks. He has also performed in various contexts as a virtuoso whistler.
