Paul Bowden

What is that?  Why did that happen?  How did that happen?  Does that always happen?  Did you see that? Can we do that again?  Paul has always been full of questions–questions about things, about how and why things happened, about consequences of the phenomena he saw around him.  As such, Paul was drawn to science.

At university (that’s Canadian for college), Paul knew he would study science and then he was going to…science(?).  After completing a bachelor’s degree in biology at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Paul was thrilled to be all done with school.  However, he didn’t know what was next.  The only thing he was sure about was that he didn’t want to spend any more time in a classroom.  He wanted to get out and see the world.  What better way to accomplish that than to go to South Korea and teach English?  record scratch  That sounds a lot like more time in a classroom.

After two years of teaching TOEFL prep in Korea, Paul returned to Canada where he tutored high school students in English, math, science, history, and standardized test prep.  Paul then completed a postgraduate B.Ed. in science education.  He moved to Minnesota and became the entire science department at a small high school.  After three years teaching high school science in Minnesota, and completing a M.Ed. from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Paul moved to New York state where he provided academic support to college students and taught environmental science at a state prison. 

Paul completed work towards a Ph.D. at Drake University in Des Moines, IA, focusing on first generation college student success while working as an academic advisor.  Paul enjoys working with students seeking to bolster their academic outputs, improve test taking strategies, or who just want to make sure they’re getting the most out of their academic opportunities.
