Rees Horton

Academic Tutor, Test Prep Tutor

Rees is a mathematician, software engineer, and lawyer with degrees from Duke University and the University of Georgia. He loves sharing his enthusiasm for all things learning to connect people’s education to their interests.

Profile

Rees grew up in Southern California before moving to Georgia for high school. He went on to attend the University of Georgia, earning a B.S. in Mathematics and an A.B. in Economics while becoming a Georgia Bulldogs college football superfan. After an internship at the U.S. Foreign Service and the Department of State, he attended Duke University School of Law where he earned a J.D. and studied venture capital and FinTech law.

Having finished his education career, Rees chose to take the path less travelled and founded his own education technology company, where he worked to combine internet resources—such as YouTube videos—to create personalized learning pathways for students. This challenge took him down new roads, becoming a self-taught programmer, a participant in the Amazon Build accelerator, a presenter at the Yale Innovation Summit, and an inventor on his own patent.

Rees’s passion is all about finding new ways to combine knowledge across disciplines to build up the people around him and unlock their unique interests. His teaching style reflects his personal adaptability, and he is happy to go off the Common Core script and use methods from around the world so long as it leads to better results for the student.

Outside of work, Rees is an avid hiker and all-around adventure sports enthusiast, including rock climbing and scuba diving. He just moved to Colorado where he plans to take on his newest challenge of skiing in the Rockies.
