Victoria Wiet

Victoria Wiet has spent her life migrating between the Midwest and the Northeast. Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, her desire to attend an intimate-but-elite research university led her to move to the Boston area and study at Brandeis. After graduating with a BA in English with highest honors, she moved down I-95 to get her PhD at Columbia and then back again to teach in Harvard’s interdisciplinary, tutorial-style History & Literature program. After a year in Cambridge, she returned to her native Midwest to take a position as assistant professor of English at DePauw University in Indiana, where she taught courses on topics ranging from postcolonial women’s literature to the Hollywood musical.  

As an educator, Victoria seeks to help students recognize that letting their ideas and interests evolve is a strength rather than a setback. In 2025, she decided to follow this advice herself by leaving the academic path and beginning a Master’s in Library Science at Simmons University. Her commitment to education remains unwavering, however, and she loves working one-on-one with students to bring the practices of curiosity and self-reflection from the college classroom into the college admissions process. As someone who almost became an anthropologist, she especially enjoys working with students whose interests span disciplinary boundaries, whether they are a pre-med student interested in social theory or a filmmaker curious about digital animation.

In addition to her work as an educator, Victoria also writes film and performance criticism and has published in venues such as the Los Angeles Review of Books, Literary Hub, and Public Books, where she is also a contributing editor. In her spare time, she enjoys going to indie cinemas, exploring new cuisines, and scoping out flea markets and vintage shops, though between April and October, she’s probably watching baseball.
