Clients' Testimonials about Willow

I’ve had a great experience with Hello College! My counselor Brooke and essay coach Willow have been really attentive and helpful. Willow helped me tackle all my essays for the 17 schools I was applying to and made me a better writer in the process. Both Willow and Brooke helped me get on top of my essays early on in the summer so I wasn’t stressed during the school year. I am so grateful for all of their wisdom, encouragement, and help!

I loved the customized approach at HelloCollege. Their college counseling was tailored to my strengths and goals, and they walked me through every step of the application process. My essay coach, Willow and my counselor Keira listened so much, gave personal advice, and created a plan that felt just right for me. I felt confident and supported throughout the entire process. I can’t imagine how my college application experience would have gone without the support of my personalized team and the support of HelloCollege as a whole.

We’re extremely happy with HelloCollege! Our counselor, Brooke Kent, is incredibly knowledgeable and has guided us every step of the way. She is positive, motivating, and proactive in providing resources and helping our daughter meet deadlines. Our daughter’s essay coach, Willow Green, has been insightful in helping her draft essays that reflect her unique experiences and strengths. With their guidance and coaching, our daughter has submitted strong college, honors, and scholarship applications and has already been admitted to some of her highest priority schools and programs. The rest of the HelloCollege team has also been immensely helpful, including our daughter’s SAT tutor, Darryl Sheppard, and our financial aid advisor, Sue Nelson. Everyone has responded promptly to our many questions, giving us expert advice and making the whole process go smoothly!

Profile

Willow is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and teacher. They grew up in a small town in the foothills of North Carolina, a place which fostered their lifelong love for cicada songs, Southern Gothic literature, and moody folk music. They earned a B.A. in Dance and English from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH. They have also taught and mentored in various roles including dramaturg, English teacher, and LGBTQIA+ student programming manager.

Intertwining their love for writing and dance, Willow has curated several entries for Movement Research’s Critical Correspondence publication. They are in the process of publishing a co-authored biography of Maggie Patton, the founder of Kenyon College’s dance program, in collaboration with Professor Julie Brodie and University of Akron Press. Willow is passionate about oral histories, embodied memory, storytelling, and archives, and they are inspired by their experiences with intergenerational community building.

As a 2022-2023 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant based in Jaffa, Willow co-taught courses at Talpiot College and facilitated immersive English sessions for Israeli and Palestinian students. This included workshops in partnership with TEC4Schools and the U.S. Embassy. Willow also studied and danced alongside local choreographers as part of Machol Shalem’s Creative Incubator, culminating in a festival premiere of their solo choreographic research. Their work has also been performed at 7MPR! at Arts on Site and MOtiVE Brooklyn.

In all aspects of their life and work, Willow is drawn to storytelling practices that invite us to witness each other more deeply. In their free time, they do their best to go on adventures with their friends. They love adventures big and small, whether it be trying a new sweet treat at the local cafe or hiking through the desert to visit a world wonder.
